The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) just announced that the digital version of the current Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, was initially rolled out with a programming glitch that caused errors in the SSN information. The glitch affected the I-9 form version posted on the USCIS website between November 14, 2016 and November 17, 2016. USCIS reposted a corrected form version on November 17, 2016.

Employers who downloaded I-9s from the USCIS website between November 14 and November 17, 2016 are advised to review them closely and ensure that the SSN information in Section 1 of the form is correct. If the information is incorrect, the employer should have the employee draw a line through the incorrect information, handwrite the correct SSN and initial and date the correction. The employer should also attach a brief memo to the I-9 explaining the reason for the correction.
